Sisterhood in the Summer

With this nothing but ordinary school year winding down, and with finals season right around the corner, summer is on everyone's minds. Not being able to see friends and family as much as we would have liked made this year tough for everyone. With things slowly returning back to normal, this summer seems like a glimmer of hope with being able to spend more time with loved ones. If this past year taught us anything it is that it is important to stay connected with people you love. So here are some in-person and virtual ways you can stay connected with your sisters during the summer break!

Go on a Picnic

If you live near your sisters, you should go on a picnic with them. It is always good to spend time outside and it is a good way to chat and catch up on what is going on in each other’s lives. Plus you can make a cute picnic set up with some old sheets, a towel, food, a picnic basket, and even buy some flowers if you are feeling fancy!

Online Game Night

If you are unable to travel do not worry, there are still a bunch of ways to stay connected to your sisters during the summer. One activity I did with my friends when we could not see each other was FaceTime and play online card games. There are a ton of websites where you can play a variety of games with your friends. When my friends and I did this we would die of laughter, so it is a good way to still feel connected without seeing them in person.

Movie Night

Again, there are a lot of ways you can still stay connected with your sisters while not seeing them in person. One way is a movie night. Of course, if you are able to see them in person you can do this in person, but this is a perfect way to do something from the comfort of your own home. I suggest downloading a Netflix party app onto your computer so you can all watch the same movie and chat during it.

Book Club

If anyone is like me, then you know the struggle of loving to read, but just not having time during the school year to do it. During the summer is the perfect time to pick up a good book and you might as well do it with some sisters! You can even have a little book club and talk about the book over FaceTime or Zoom once a week or every two weeks.

Painting

Painting can be a fun and relaxing activity for you and your sisters! Go to a local craft store and pick up some canvases, paint, and paintbrushes. If you can meet in person I suggest finding a nice spot outside, but you can also do this through zoom or FaceTime.

Cake Decorating Contest

I love to bake especially with my friends, so why not make it into a fun competition? Get some cake mix, frosting, and decorating supplies. Once you have all made your cakes you can have other sisters, friends, family members, or you can even post your cakes on your Instagram story and have your followers judge them!

Charcuterie Board

Everyone loves a good charcuterie board, so why not make one with your sisters! You can all contribute your favorite cheeses, crackers, bread, jams, and more to make the perfect board. You can also combine this with the picnic idea and make a cute setup or movie night so you have a delicious snack while you watch a movie with your sisters.

Go on a Hike

Last but not least, if you can meet in person, go on a hike! A hike is a good way to be active and discover new places. Find a good hiking spot where some of your sisters can all meet up, and enjoy the time outside. After this past year, it is a good idea to get away from your computer or phone screen and spend time outside, so you might as well do that with your sisters!

I know we are all anxious to get this school year over with and begin our summer vacations. After this stressful year, it is important to focus on taking care of ourselves, while still staying connected to people you love. Whether you can meet in person, or you have to do some of these activities over zoom or FaceTime, it is still important to stay connected with your sisters. I hope you can use some of these ideas to stay connected with your sisters throughout the summer and make some great memories!
